Located in East Cornwall, Trewint is a 200 acre farm specializing in the breeding of pedigree South Devon cattle. Our breeding programme has resulted in Trewint cattle being present throughout the UK. We also have progeny in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Sweden, Poland, Ireland and the Isle of Man.

Stuart Rowe founded the South Devon herd at Trewint in 1947. Peter and Ashley Rowe now farm Trewint which competes at many of the major and one day shows nationally and has had many successes. In 2008 Trewint was awarded Champion South Devon bull at the South Devon Herd Book Society Spring Show and Sale with Trewint Jaffa 10 and the Champion again at the Royal Cornwall Show. Peter says, "I go for a modern type of cattle. I don't mean unnatural and excessive muscling, but natural fleshing with good width, a good loin and the ability to do this off grass."

"Our cows must be good doers. If they can't maintain their appropriate body condition throughout the year, they are culled. This gives us greater herd uniformity, as does the breeding policy we use. When I choose a new herd sire from outside, I aim to retain his best son from one of our best breeding cows for use within the herd." Peter is proud that the quality and uniformity of the herd has been regularly rewarded by success in the regional and national herd competitions. As he no longer grows his own corn Peter now sells most of his steers to Philip Warren of Launceston. With increasing demand for his breeding bulls he prefers to devote the farm's resources to increasing the cow herd numbers. Peter's son Ashley is showing every sign of becoming an expert stockman in the family tradition.
